The Artist
Hi! I'm Janie, the hands and heart behind the art.
For many years I've been drawn to the idea that as humans, we are all artists, as we are all created by a Creator. However, it wasn't until I started to embark on this artistic journey with clay that I've started to identify as an artist myself. I believe that creativity manifests when we give it the space and attention to. It is when we nourish the parts of ourselves that are often to painful or 'broken' to put into words from which the most beautiful creations can emerge. I wholeheartedly believe that art is one of the most powerful tools for healing. When we are able to move past our thoughts and allow ours hands and heart to take over, we are able to into a state of flow from which life and growth can emerge. It is when we allow ourselves to feel and experience everything for how it is, and not how we expect things to be. Floware is more than just a ceramics business, it is a way of being.
The Artistry
All pieces are handmade by me in my home studio in the Netherlands. Whether that is with the handbuilding technique or by wheel throwing, each piece is an extension of who I am.
After thoughtfully sculpting the clay into a functional piece I paint each piece. I don't have a specific style and no two pieces are ever exactly the same. I allow myself to create from the heart- always exploring, changing and evolving.
